it is important to remember that…
- just because someone doesn’t have panic attacks doesn’t mean that they couldn’t have an anxiety disorder
- just because someone can genuinely laugh and smile doesn’t mean that they couldn’t have a depression disorder
- just because someone seems to be emotionally stable doesn’t mean that they couldn’t have a bipolar disorder
- everyone goes through mental illness a different way
- don’t tell someone they don’t suffer from a disorder just because they don’t have the same symptoms you do
i love how anime from the 80s set in the future always assumes itd be the 80s forever. years, decades, centuries later even. same aerobics classes, same casual wear, same music scene, its the 80s from 1980 til the universe eats itself this is what they believed. im sad that they were wrong, id have looked really good in an 80s futuristic robotic battle suit
thank you carrie fisher for owning your life despite mental illness and despite addiction and despite 40 years of shaming and bullshit thank you for making it okay to talk about mental illness in a way that isn’t always fun and thank you for making it okay to be mentally ill and unashamed of it thank you for owning mental illness thank you for 60 years of telling the world to go fuck themselves if they didn’t like you thank you so much thank you thank you thank you
It wasn’t the 80s
Ok. Story for Steven didn’t take place in the 80s. As someone who was old enough to remember the mid 90s, I present the evidence thus:
- the gems are detached from human society. We cannot use their fashion as the signpost for what year this occurs in
- music like Greg’s was outdated but not uncommon in the mid 90s. We hadn’t quite reached the glittery pop and techno phase of the 90s until the Spice Girls got big in 1997.
- the way that Vidalia and Marty are dressed was absolutely mid 90s fashion. Go watch a Goofy Movie. That is a great capsule of how people - especially teens and younger ppl - dressed in 1995
- Greg is selling CDs. The technology for them was invented earlier than the 90s but wasn’t really used widely enough that a struggling new artist would be selling them at his shows until 1993 or 1994. He would have been selling cassettes if it were earlier.
- Marty probably knocked Vidalia up with Sour Cream. If we assume it’s late 1995 or 1996, that puts Sour Cream at being born in 96 or early 97, thus making him 17 or 18.
If Greg is 20sish in this ep, then he’s just hitting 40 in the main show timeline, which matches up with his health and appearance. Assuming Steven is 10, he and Rose would’ve been together for 10 or so years before Rose gave up her physical body.

when did we replace the word “said” with “was like”
When it occured to us that “said” implies a direct quote, while “was like” clarifies that you mean to communicate the person’s tone and general point without quoting them word for word.
thank you. thank you so much. so very very much. thank you.
when ur car has a panic button
Person 1: My car is cooler than your car!
Person 2: Uh, does your car have a panic button?
Person 1: What does that do?
Person 2: [presses button]
[I Write Sins Not Tragedies by Panic! at the Disco plays loudly]
Everytime I watch this I’m furious that the song doesn’t play for longer.
